Taxonomy
Prosaphites was named as a genus. It is not extant. It was considered unknown by Quéreilhac (2009).

It was corrected as Proscaphites by Arkell et al. (1957); it was reranked as Taramelliceras (Proscaphites) by Imlay (1961), Schlegelmilch (1994), Quéreilhac (2009).

It was assigned to Taramelliceratinae by Arkell et al. (1957); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Taramelliceras by Imlay (1961), Schlegelmilch (1994), Quéreilhac (2009).
