Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
A. Williams 1962Large, subrectangular, concavo-convex Bellimurina with a rounded, dorsally directed geniculation at over 20 mm. anterior to the ventral umbo and a long trail thrown into low plicae with a wave-length of about 6 mm., visceral portion of pedicle valve gently and evenly convex about one-fifth as deep as long, that of the brachial valve plane or slightly convex; radial ornamentation consisting of finely cancellated, rounded costellae, about 7 per millimetre antero-medianly on the geniculate zone, divided into sectors by thickened costae and costellae, about 3 mm. apart, at the geniculation; visceral surfaces additionally ornamented by asymmetrical rugae, with a wave-length of 1 mm., short and irregularly disposed umbonally but tending to be arranged concentrically towards the geniculate zone although still interrupted by the thickened costellae; both interareas well developed with a wide, apical pseudodeltidium in the longer, apsacline, ventral one, chilidium strongly arched and massive; dental lamellae short and widely divergent, teeth massive, crenulated, muscle-scar elongately quadrate about one-haft as long as the visceral disc, contained laterally by a pair of subparallel ridges extending anteriorly from the dental lamellae, pallial sinus pattern probably saccate with slightly divergent vascula media presumably following the zone of geniculation and giving rise to long, closely spaced branches feeding the trail; cardinal process lobes elongate, only slightly elevated above the notothyrial platform so that the pustulose diductor surfaces are directed postero-ventrally, socket ridges low, curved, divergent and bounding large crenulate sockets, median ridge wide and low extending from the notothyrial platform for about one-quarter of the length of the visceral disc, adductor field vaguely defined but associated with two pairs of narrowly divergent septa.
