Orthis (Plectorthis) subplicatella was named by Reed (1917).

It was recombined as Orthambonites subplicatellus by Williams (1962); it was recombined as Dinorthis subplicatella by Candela and Harper (2014).

A. Williams 1962Large, unequally biconvex, subcircular Orthambonites with obtuse cardinal angles; pedicle valve almost nine-tenths as long as wide and over one-quarter as deep as long, brachial valve about onefifth as deep as long and with a shallow, median sulcus embracing 6 costae; ornamentation consisting of about 32 low, rounded costae separated by equally wide interspaces bearing fine radial parvicostellae and conspicuous concentric lamellae: ventral muscle-field subflabellate, with the diductor scars almost enclosing the median adductor anteriorly and extending forward for about two-fifths the length of the pedicle vane.
