Acutisclerus was named by Gilliland (1992) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett-u J Plie Sepkoski's reference number: 982,988]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Priscopedatus empeldensis.

It was assigned to Priscopedatidae by Gilliland (1992); and to Dendrochirotida by Sepkoski (2002).
