Taxonomy
Mortensenites was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: C u T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 768]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Gromia liasica.

It was assigned to Elasipoda by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952); to Calclamnidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) and Frizzell and Exline (1966); and to Dendrochirotida by Sepkoski (2002).
