Palelpidia was named by Mostler (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 982]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Palelpidia norica. It is the type genus of Palelpidiidae.
It was assigned to Palelpidiidae by Mostler (1968); and to Elasipodida by Sepkoski (2002).
