Cymatoceras renngarteni was named by Shimansky (1975). Its type specimen is PIN 1462/73, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Nalchik, Caucasus (early Barremian), which is in a Barremian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
