Lepidasterina was named by Ruedemann (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fras]. It is not extant. Its type is Lepidasterina gracilis.

It was assigned to Archophiactinidae by Spencer (1927), Owen (1965), Spencer and Wright (1966); to Goniactinida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Euaxosida by Blake (2018).
