Nautilus darupensis was named by Schluter (1876).

It was recombined as Eutrephoceras darupensis by Kummel (1956); it was recombined as Eutrephoceras darupense by Wiedmann (1960), Shimansky (1975), Wittler et al. (1999), Wilmsen (2000).
