Taxonomy
Archaeorthis major was named by Nikitina et al. (2006). Its type specimen is USNM 485040, a shell (complete shell), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Locality 156. Kurzhaksai section, which is in an Abereiddian open shallow subtidal limestone/siltstone in the Uzunbulak Formation of Kazakhstan.
