Taxonomy
Macroporaster was named by Raymond (1921) [Sepkoski's age data: O m]. It is not extant. Its type is Asterias matutina.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hudsonaster by Dean Shackleton (2005).

It was assigned to Hudsonasterinae by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Pustulosida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mesopalaeasteridae by Blake (2018).
