Taxonomy
Palasterina was named by McCoy (1851) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov D l]. Its type is Uraster primaevus. It is the type genus of Palasterinidae. It was considered monophyletic by Dean Shackleton (2005).
It was assigned to Eoactinidae by Spencer (1922); to Hemizonida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palasterinidae by Gregory (1899), Schuchert (1915), Withers and Keble (1934), Lehmann (1957), Owen (1965), Spencer and Wright (1966), Dean Shackleton (2005), Herringshaw et al. (2007), Blake (2018).
It was assigned to Eoactinidae by Spencer (1922); to Hemizonida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palasterinidae by Gregory (1899), Schuchert (1915), Withers and Keble (1934), Lehmann (1957), Owen (1965), Spencer and Wright (1966), Dean Shackleton (2005), Herringshaw et al. (2007), Blake (2018).
