Chonetes hemispherica was named by Hall (1857). Its type specimen is AMNH 2825, a valve (pedicle valve), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was corrected as Chonetes hemisphaerica by Hall and Clarke (1892); it was recombined as Eodevonaria hemispherica by Racheboeuf and Feldman (1990).
