Plesiastropecten was named by Peyer (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Plesiastropecten hallovensis.
It was assigned to Astropectininae by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Paleobenthopectininae by Blake (1984); to Paxillosida by Sepkoski (2002); to Notomyotida by Sepkoski (2002); to Velatida by Villier et al. (2009); and to Plumasteridae by Gale and Jagt (2021).
