Xandarosaster was named by Blake (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo]. It is not extant. Its type is Xandarosaster hessi.

It was assigned to Paleobenthopectininae by Blake (1984); to Paxillosida by Sepkoski (2002); to Velatida by Villier et al. (2009); and to Spinulosida by Gale and Jagt (2021).
