Taxonomy
Crenatula ventricosa was named by Sowerby (1823).

It was recombined as Inoceramus ventricosus by Cox (1928); it was recombined as Parainoceramus ventricosus by Cox (1954); it was recombined as Parainoceramya ventricosa by Ros-Franch et al. (2015).
