Taxonomy
Nanus planicarinatus was named by Bachmayer and Szyndlar (1985). Its type specimen is NMW 1984/97 (a single trunk vertebra) and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kohfidisch, which is in a MN 11 terrestrial horizon in Austria.
It was recombined as Coluber planicarinatus by Bachmayer and Szyndlar (1987).
