Hybocystites was named by Wetherby (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-m]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Hybocystitidae.
It was assigned to Hybocrinidae by Parsley (1981); to Hybocystitidae by Ausich (1998); and to Hybocrinida by Sepkoski (2002).
