Aesiocrinus was named by Miller and Gurley (1890) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash C Step-u]. It is the type genus of Aesiocrinidae.

It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); to Cymbiocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978), Pabian and Rushlau (2002); to Aesiocrinidae by Webster and Lane (2007); and to Articuliformes by Wright (2017).
