Aphelecrinus was named by Kirk (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Serp-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aphelecrinidae by Lane et al. (2001); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Articuliformes by Wright (2017).
