Bolbocrinus was named by Wanner (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: P l P Guad-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Bolbocrinus hieroglyphicus. It is the type genus of Bolbocrininae.
It was assigned to Bolbocrininae by Arendt (1970), Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Codiacrinidae by Wanner (1916), Webster and Webster (2012).
