Taxonomy
Pholiderpeton bretonense was named by Romer (1958). Its type specimen is MCZ 2772, a mandible, and it is a mold. Its type locality is near Point Edward, which is in a Serpukhovian/Bashkirian terrestrial siltstone in the Point Edward Formation of Canada.
