Corythocrinus was named by Kirk (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-l Sepkoski's reference number: 906]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Corythocrinidae.

It was assigned to Corythocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); to Articulata by Webster and Jell (1999); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Articuliformes by Wright (2017).
