Phymaraphinia was named by Schrammen (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti K u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Phymaraphinia infundibuliformis. It is the type genus of Phymaraphiniidae.
It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Phymaraphiniidae by Finks et al. (2004).
