Gasterocoma was named by Goldfuss (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg D Give]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Gasterocomacea, Gasterocomidae.
It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gasterocomidae by Johnson and Lane (1969), Ubaghs et al. (1978), Webster et al. (2008).
