Linocrinus was named by Kirk (1938) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 906]. Its type is Linocrinus wachsmuthi.

It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Zeacrinitidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978), Kammer and Roeser (2012).
