Mastigocrinus was named by Bather (1892) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Mastigocrinacea, Mastigocrinidae.
It was assigned to Botryocrinidae by Ramsbottom (1958); to Mastigocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002).
