Metabolocrinus was named by Jaekel (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: O m]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Metabolocrinidae.

It was assigned to Metabolocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978), Ausich (1998); to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Disparida by Wright (2017).
