Taxonomy
Plinthosella was named by Zittel (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 642]. It is not extant. Its type is Plinthosella squamosa. It is the type genus of Plinthosellidae.

It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Plinthosellidae by Finks et al. (2004).
