Nautilus leiotropis was named by Schluter (1876). It is the type species of Deltocymatoceras.
It was recombined as Deltocymatoceras leiotropis by Kummel (1956), Shimansky (1975); it was recombined as Angulithes leiotropis by Wiedmann (1960); it was misspelled as Deltocymatoceras leiotrops by Wittler et al. (1999).
