Nautilus semistriatus was named by d'Orbigny (1843). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.B48598 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Cenoceras semistriatus by Kummel (1956); it was recombined as Cenoceras semistriatum by Calzada (1988) and Enay et al. (1994).
