Taxonomy
Aphelosaurus was named by Gervais (1858). It is not extant. Its type is Aphelosaurus lutevensis.
It was assigned to Protorosauridae by Osborn (1903), Kuhn (1966); and to Araeoscelidae by Falconnet (2014).
