Taxonomy
Nautilus bayfieldi was named by Foord and Crick (1890). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Norwich (Bayfield collection), which is in a Campanian carbonate chalk in the Upper Chalk Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Cymatoceras bayfieldi by Kummel (1956).
