Zeacrinites was named by Troost (1858) [Troost in Hall, 1858].

It was corrected as Zeacrinus by Bassler and Moodey (1938).

It was assigned to Cladida by Sepkoski (2002); to Zeacrinitidae by Bassler and Moodey (1938), Ubaghs et al. (1978), Webster and Webster (2012); and to Articuliformes by Wright (2017).
