Virgatosphinctes patagoniensis was named by Weaver (1931). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Rehmannia (Loczyceras) patagoniense by Parent (2006); it was recombined as Rehmannia patagoniensis by Parent and Garrido (2015).
