Taxonomy
Hoplitocrioceras giovinei was named by Aguirre-Urreta and Rawson (2001). Its type specimen is CPBA 19219, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SH10 - El Salado Sur, which is in a Hauterivian marine siltstone in the Agrio Formation of Argentina.
