Taxonomy
Macrocnemus obristi was named by Fraser and Furrer (2013). Its type specimen is PIMUZ A/III 1467, a partial skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Ducanfurgga, Davos, which is in a Fassanian marine shale in the Prosanto Formation of Switzerland.
