Taxonomy
Rhopalospongia was named by Hinde (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Polypothecia gregaria.

It was assigned to Tetracladina by Hinde (1883); to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Theonellidae by Finks et al. (2004).
