Albertechinus was named by Stearn (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: D u Sepkoski's reference number: 956]. It is not extant. Its type is Albertechinus montanus.

It was assigned to Lepidocentridae by Stearn (1956), Kier (1966), Boczarowski (2001); and to Echinocystitoida by Sepkoski (2002).
