Taxonomy
Helicopsis piedmontanica was named by Harzhauser et al. (2015). Its type specimen is MGPTPU 110943, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Torino Hill, Moncucco Torinese, "facies à Congeria" (for unassigned specimens), which is in a Messinian deep subtidal marl in the facies à Congeria Formation of Italy.
