Rhenechinus was named by Dehm (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Rhenechinus hopstaetteri.
It was assigned to Echinocystitidae by Kier (1966); and to Echinocystitoida by Sepkoski (2002).
