Taxonomy
Miocidaris (Serpianotiaris) was named by Jeannet (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-m Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 342,801]. Its type is Miocidaris (Serpianotiaris) hescheleri. It is the type subgenus of Serpianotiaridae.

It was reranked as Serpianotiaris by Fell (1966), Kier (1977), Hagdorn (1995), Sepkoski (2002) and Jaselli and Pieroni (2023).

It was assigned to Miocidaris by Jeannet (1853); to Diadematacea by Fell (1966); to Miocidaridae by Kier (1977); to Cidaroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Serpianotiaridae by Hagdorn (1995) and Jaselli and Pieroni (2023).
