Sontheimia was named by Kolb (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Sontheimia parasitica.

It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Protetraclisidae by Finks et al. (2004).
