Spinocladia was named by Lagneau-Herenger (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. Its type is Spinocladia tubulata.
It was assigned to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Gignouxiinae by Finks et al. (2004).
