Strophomena hollii was named by Davidson (1871) [Lectotype selected by Cocks (1978, p. 123)]. Its type specimen is B 13641, a valve (dorsal valve external mould), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Christiania hollii by Cocks (2010).
