Orthis imperator was named by Billings (1859) [Syntypes]. Its type specimen is G.S.C. 1036a and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Hebertella imperator by Raymond (1911); it was recombined as Mimella imperator by Cooper (1956).
