Orthis sadewitzensis was named by Roemer (1861).

It was recombined as Boreadorthis sadewitziensis by Alikhova (1953), Alikhova (1953); it was recombined as Boreadorthis sadewitzensis by Oraspold (1959); it was recombined as Boreadorthis sadewiziensis by Hints et al. (2016).
