Taxonomy
Rotodactylus rati was named by Demathieu (1971). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is 21.8 I2, a footprint, and it is a trace fossil. Its type locality is Pont d'Argent Quarry, bed 4 tracksite, which is in an Anisian/Ladinian lagoonal sandstone/claystone in the Grès d'Antully Formation of France.

G. Demathieu 1971Le pied, grand pour le genre (38 X 85 mm), ne montre que les trois orteils médians; les 1er et 5e sont représentés par leur griffe. Celle du 1er est presque toujours visible à côté du coussinet proximal du 2e ; celle du 5e, qui n'est pas toujours imprimée, montre par sa position la rotation vers l'arrière de l'orteil correspondant. Les 2e et 3e rayons sont à peu près rectilignes ; le 4e, légèrement courbé, est à peine plus long que le 3e. Les griffes, bien visibles et fortement appuyées, sont souvent légèrement déjetées vers l'intérieur. La main, si elle est présente, ne se distingue pas du pied par ses caractères.
