Ammonites matheroni was named by d'Orbigny (1840).

It was recombined as Puzosia matheroni by Douvillé (1916), Wilckens (1947); it was recombined as Melchiorites matheroni by Collignon (1972); it was recombined as Pseudohaploceras matheroni by Aliev (1958), Förster and Weier (1983).
