Archiacia was named by Agassiz (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala K Ceno-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1043].

It was assigned to Archiacidae by Kier (1962); to Cassiduloida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Archiaciidae by Kier (1966), Berndt (2003).
